Health & Nutrition


The Health and Nutrition minor provides students with the foundation of knowledge in how diet and exercise impact personal health, food composition, and disease prevention. Students will also be prepared to sit for the International Society of Sports Nutrition certification to become a Sports Nutrition Specialist (ISSN-SNS).

  • Understand the role of nutrition in health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Understand the impact of age, gender, culture and socioeconomic status on dietary behaviors and disease prevalence.
  • Understand the metabolic basis underlying the dietary and nutrient recommendations for different levels of exercise and various types of sports.
  • Gain a better understanding of select cultures by studying food habits around the world.
