Leading?

How do you know when feelings, urgings, etc. are God’s voice versus fear or doubts? Does God lead us with His “still, small voice” and inner “promptings,” or does the Holy Spirit’s voice work more subtly through God’s Word?

I know, I know, it seems like such things would be easily discernable, but surprisingly, they are not. Maybe I’m not mature enough spiritually. Maybe I’m not sensitive enough to God’s whisper. Or maybe others struggle with these ideas too. (Selfishly, I hope the last one is the case.)

The psalmist said, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

And there are multiple verses about the Spirit leading believers:

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God,” Romans 8:14.

“But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law,” Galations 5:18

“When the Spirit of truth comes he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak…” John 16:13

There are plenty of internet sites about the Spirit’s leading, each with something different to say. But, anyway, this is something I’m thinking about and trying to figure out. I would love your input and suggested verses, etc.

Some interesting websites to look at are (and please note, I’m not endorsing everything these sites say):
